Expedited Public Alerts & Warnings:
HazCollect - Operational and Available Nationwide
The National Weather Service (NWS) All-Hazards Emergency Message Collection System (HazCollect) streamlines and automates the distribution of Non-Weather Emergency Messages (NWEMs), expediting alerts and warnings, thus shortening the critical time needed to warn the public. HazCollect improves Emergency Managers' capability to "provide public dissemination of critical pre- and post-event information on the all hazards NOAA Weather Radio," by relay to the Emergency Alert System (EAS), and distribution through other text-based services. DMIS Desktop Tools incorporates an NWEM authoring tool for the use of warning authorities (the authoring tool is not exposed for use until the HazCollect authorization process has been completed).
The DMIS tools and the NOAA/NWS HazCollect Service are both available free of charge. Any interested warning authority or emergency manager regardless of jurisdiction may begin the process of NWEM training, Disaster Management Interoperability Services (DMIS) and HazCollect registration and approval whenever convenient.
As an integral part of the country's preparedness efforts, NOAA/NWS and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Disaster Management (DM) Program are working together to provide local and State governments with an interoperable means of warning or alerting the pubic to all types of hazards.
